March 8 IWD - #BeBoldForChange

The theme this year is "Be Bold For Change." The website lists some excellent suggestions for anyone to do to support the voice of women.  https://www.internationalwomensday.com/BoldForChange

Suggestions are divided into the categories of

  • bias & inequality
  • campaign against violence
  • women's advancement
  • women's achievement
  • women's education

Anyone can take a minute and add their support. Everyone should. It's one world and we can learn to share it better.

March 8 - International Women's Day

What are you doing for IWD this year?

It is often a day that passes with little fanfare. There are no marches or gifts of flowers. No moment of silence and no block parties. ...but there could be any of that.

The beauty of the day is we can make it our own with gestures large or small. We can take a minute, hour or day. It can be quietly personal or extended to whomever we please. The focus can range from general celebrations of respect to ideas supporting further economic, political and social contributions  by women.

Stuck for ideas? Try:

  • a beverage date with good friends
  • offering 30 minutes of your time to a woman for career (or other) support
  • blog a tip or a tool
  • sign up to be a mentor
  • thank a woman for something specific that inspired you
  • send a note to a political leader about change you would like to see
  • leave comments on social media for sites/blogs/ articles which made you think
  • attend an event
  • volunteer at an event
  • create an event
  • call your mom, aunt, sister
I will be cheering all our choices!

International Women's Day was March 8

March 8 passed relatively quietly yet again… However, one day does not make as much of a difference as daily small changes. Thank you all for the ongoing supportive environment you create for the men & women who work with you. We are learning together how to make change on the things that really matter.

International Women's Day 2013

International Women's Day - 104 years old and still not an out-dated concept.

The struggle for women's equality (reducing violence, pay equity, right to education, etc.) gives me hope. A lot of speakers lately cite studies and articles that claim we are the first generation since the invention of the printing press to leave the next generation with less advantages/resources/opportunities than we have had.

While progress on the women's front has been glacial in some aspects, it is getting better. Pay equity, board and leadership representation, educational opportunities look better today than 104 years ago and there are talented people striving to make them even better.

Women are a moving force behind the economy, societies, creativity and so much more.

We are some of the world’s great artists and thinkers over the centuries. Doctors and world leaders. Village elders. Neighbourhood Watch program captains. Microfinance agents. Inventors. Mothers. Daughters. Friends. Contributors. Conveners. Collaborators.

Attend an event March 8. Participate in a program this month. Raise the conversation this year.
